Hi Raiders! I'd like to share some changes taking place at the MSOE library when you return from spring break. We will begin requiring library visitors to swipe their ID card to gain access to the library.
Why are we making this change?
In an effort to improve library security, we are implementing this change to keep our visitors, facilities, staff, and collections safe. Many other university libraries have implemented similar security measures. It's been on our wish list for a while.
How will I access the library?
It's simple! When you arrive at the library's main entrance on the second floor, look for an ID card swipe station to the left of the doors. Hold your ID card to the swipe pad for a moment. This will unlock the right-side door for several seconds. You may then pull the door open or use the automatic door opener.
ID cards will not allow visitors to access the library outside of normal operational hours.
What about library visitors without an ID card?
Visitors who don't have an MSOE ID card (for example: special borrowers, alumni, invited guests, and others outlined in our visitor access policy) may call the library's main line at (414) 277-7180 to gain access to the library during normal operational hours. Library staff will ask a few questions to determine if access is permitted.
As a reminder, our library is not open to the general public.
What if I don't have my ID card with me?
Students, faculty, and staff are expected to carry their ID cards with them at all times. Those who don't already carry theirs are advised to start doing so. If your ID card is missing or if it is not scanning correctly, contact the MSOE help desk for assistance. (Read more about MSOE ID cards here.)
Questions or feedback?
If you have concerns about this change, please contact the library. See you soon!
