Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma when jumping from aircraft: randomized controlled trial
This peer-reviewed article provides scientific proof that using a parachute makes you no more likely to survive a jump out of an airplane than if you'd jumped without. (Hint: look at the methodology! This is a great paper to demonstrate the importance of actually reading papers rather than simply looking at abstracts.)
