The library contains two printers. One prints in black and white, and the other prints in color. Both are available to MSOE students, faculty, and staff who are connected to the MSOE wireless network.
The printers are located on the second floor near the main library entrance. You'll see them against the wall just to the left of the Schroeder conference room, across from the circulation desk.
First, you'll need to set up the job on your computer.
Once you've sent your job to the printer, you'll need to log onto the printer with your MSOE ID. You can do this quickly and easily by holding your MSOE ID card up to the card reader. Or, you can log in with your MSOE ID and password on the touch screen on each printer.
Once you're logged in, you'll see a number of options. Tap "Print All" to quickly release all print jobs you've sent to the printer. (This is the quickest and easiest way to just get things printed.) Or, you can release print jobs one at a time by tapping "Print Release" and viewing a list of print jobs you've sent.
The printer should complete your print job shortly.
In order to print color copies, you will need to have money in your Raider account. Color copies cost 30 cents per page.
You can print in black and white on the color printer. However, in order to do so without a charge, you must send the job over as a black and white print job from your computer's print dialog box. (It's probably easiest just to use the black and white printer for black and white jobs.)
The printers are pre-stocked with white letter-size copy paper. If you want to use different paper (different quality, color, or size) you'll need to load it into the printer using the bypass tray. (Please do not open the printer trays to add/remove paper yourself; ask at the front desk if the printer needs to be refilled.)
We do have white 11 x 17 copy paper on hand for larger jobs. However, if you need a different color, quality, or size for your print job you'll need to supply the paper yourself.
The IT department offers a guide to printing on your own paper here.
You may scan on the printers using your MSOE ID.
The black and white printer is capable of scanning in color.
You may also make simple copies using the printers in the library.
Here are a few of the most common problems we encounter with printing in the library:
I followed all the instructions but nothing is coming out of the printer.
I put 11 x 17 paper in the bypass tray to print on larger paper, but nothing is happening.
When I log on to the printer, I don't see my print job.
The printer is out of paper or staples.
Please ask a staff member at the front desk for assistance.
I'm running into other problems.
Ask at the front desk for help. We'll do our best to figure it out, but we may need to refer you to IT in some cases for further assistance.
